Abu Dhabi city sits on an island connected to the mainland by bridges, with the Corniche, Saadiyat and Yas islands and residential districts on the mainland. It is the seat of the federal government and major energy and investment companies.

Housing
Generally cheaper than Dubai, with apartments on the island and villas on the mainland.
A central one-bedroom costs about AED 6,000 to 9,000 a month. Leases must be registered through Tawtheeq, and rent is often paid in a few cheques.
Electricity and water accounts are set up with the Abu Dhabi distribution company, and many buildings include district cooling in service charges.

Cost of living
Slightly cheaper than Dubai, especially for rent, with no income tax.
A single professional renting a one-bedroom typically spends AED 12,000 to 17,000 a month. Families with children in private school usually need AED 30,000 or more.

Jobs
Strong in energy, government, healthcare, education and investment.
Salaries are tax-free and often generous in energy and government-related roles, with housing and education allowances common.
Recruiters, LinkedIn and direct applications are the main channels. Some government-linked roles give priority to Emirati nationals under Emiratisation policies.

Transportation
A car-first city with good roads, affordable taxis and an improving bus network.
Buses run throughout the city and to Al Ain and Dubai. Pay with the Hafilat card, and monthly passes are inexpensive. Autonomous vehicle and rapid transit pilots operate on Yas and Saadiyat islands.
Silver TransAD taxis are affordable and plentiful, and Uber and Careem also operate.
Most residents drive. Roads are wide and well maintained.
The national Etihad Rail passenger network is set to link Abu Dhabi with Dubai and other emirates.

Lifestyle
Museums, beaches, theme parks and a quieter, family-oriented pace of life.
Abu Dhabi feels calmer and greener than Dubai. Evenings often mean a walk or cycle along the Corniche, dinner on the waterfront, or time at the beach clubs on Saadiyat Island.
The city has large Indian, Filipino, Arab and Western communities, with many clubs and associations.
