I arrive in Seoul in late August on a D-2 student visa. Friends say appointments are hard to find. When should I start trying?

Start checking as soon as you have your address, ideally in your first week. August is peak season in Seoul because of new students and teachers. Slots are often released around midnight Korean time. Your university's international office may also arrange group registration for new students, which saves you the search. Ask them first.

When I visited Seoul, a colleague who works there said offices outside the centre sometimes have earlier slots, but you must register at the office that covers your address. Check that before booking, and bring copies of everything, because the officer may ask for your lease and enrolment certificate on the spot.
